ATN Hounslow

Client: Torrin

TORRIN WAS REFERRED ONTO THE COMMUNITY WORK PLACEMENT PROGRAMME WITH THE ADULT TRAINING NETWORK ON 7TH JULY 2014. WHEN TORRIN FIRST ARRIVED, HE LACKED CONFIDENCE AND RECENT WORK EXPERIENCE I N HIS CHOSEN FIELD.
Torrin wanted to work in the Information Technology and Computing sector, and had attended several interviews with little success due to his lack of confidence. With this is mind, Torrin wished to update his skills and experience in order to help him obtain full-time employment.
At the Adult Training Network, Torrin has worked in a professional and diligent fashion in order to assist with the running of the ‘Digital Inclusion’ computer training class.
He has performed the tasks of teaching and administration very well and even as a volunteer, Torrin has proved to be an invaluable member of the team. He is hugely popular with the clients as well as the staff members at ATN.
Since starting the CWP programme, he has gained a variety of new skills and experience, particularly within the field of educational delivery for IT. Due to his rapid progression, commitment and aptitude, Torrin was offered employment with ATN and started his new job in January 2015!
Congratulations Torrin!

"Before I came to ATN I lacked the skills and the confidence required to get a job. ATN have been very helpful and supported me throughout my journey."

Client: Fartun
ESF Families Project Success Story Fartun was referred by the Hounslow JCP on the REED ESF Families Project in September 2013. She was unemployed and receiving JSA. After a discussion with the Families Employment Adviser, the following interventions were identified; Fartun had ESOL/Literacy needs and found it difficult to communicate with employers. She also lacked basic ICT skills and couldn’t use the computer. These barriers had impacted negatively on Fartun’s motivation and confidence levels. The following Progress Measures were chosen to help break down her barriers and move closer her to the finding work; Preparation for Qualifications ESOL, Digital Inclusion ICT and Part-time work.

Fartun received help and support in attending and completing her progress measures. Her language skills have improved and she can also use the computer independently. In September 2013 a part-time cleaning position became available in our Hounslow Branch and the FEA encouraged Fartun to apply for the job. She was offered the job and has been working on a part-time basis with ATN since. Her confidence has improved as a result and is learning a lot on the job. She has been able to update her CV and is applying for more jobs to top up her hours. She has been on a few interviews since and is optimistic about the future. Fartun is really happy with the progress she has made in a few months since she enrolled on the programme and attributes her success to the support she received from all the staff at ATN.

“Thank you to ATN for all the help I received on the course. I was able to do my job search in peace and got a good CV. I also learnt some ICT skills.”

Client: Lisa Somjen

Lisa was referred to the Launch Pad programme by the Hounslow Jobcentre plus on the 10/09/2013. She had been unemployed for about more than a year when she joined the programme. Lisa was very attentive during sessions and contributed a lot during discussions. Her attendance patterns were very good. She was punctual on all the days she attended. On the programme, she received help with creating and updating her CV, we also run sessions on boosting self confidence and helping her recognise her strengths and weaknesses. We also covered self assessment, money management and analysing job vacancies. The trainer helped her sign up onto the Universal Job Match and successfully uploaded her CV onto the site. When she first enrolled on the course, she was quite scared to use the computers.  She was supported throughout the course by her tutor to keep her motivated and to improve her ICT skills.  Now she feels much more confident to use computers independently and is able to use her ICT skills to look and apply for jobs online. She also took part in a mock interview session which she really enjoyed. We discussed the types of interviews employers use for recruiting potential candidates and she also watched a couple of interview videos online.  She was also provided with internet access, envelopes for speculative letters and telephone access for her job search. Lisa eventually secured a full time job as a care worker in Hounslow and she has attributed her success to the help she received on the course.
